Where to find bitcoin ATMs in Mexico
Bitcoin ATMs and other cryptocurrencies are gaining increasing popularity worldwide, to the point that there are currently almost 5,000 installed units in the world. Mexico is among the Latin American countries that host the largest number of bitcoin ATMs.
According to the statistics page CoinATMRadar, Mexico shares with the Dominican Republic the second regional place in number of Bitcoin ATMs installed in its territory, with 12 units. The first place in Latin America is held by Colombia with 40 installed ATMs.
The majority of ATMs in Mexican territory are located in the capital, Mexico City, where they can be found in five locations. Three of them are comic book stores of the Fantastic Comics and Comicatel group, first to install a Bitcoin ATM in Mexico, in 2014. These ATM units are from the Genesis Coin manufacturer, one of the most important in the world, and operate from bidirectional form, that is, they allow to buy and sell bitcoins.
The other two ATM locations in the Mexican capital are the Wings Capital restaurant and a bitcoin exchange called Bitlem. ATMs in this city can exchange bitcoins with Mexican pesos, although some ATMs also accept litecoin and ether.
The city of Tijuana has two other ATMs, one of which, located in a shopping center, operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Each of the cities of Monterrey, Queretaro, Culiacan, Guadalajara and Silao, has an ATM device, in locations such as comic stores, shopping centers and even a bakery.
Apart from the Genesis Coin units, there are also devices from the Lamassu and BitTeller manufacturers. The latter only allows the one-way purchase of Bitcoin.
It should be noted that among the cryptocurrency purchase services that have emerged since the creation of Bitcoin, ATMs have become very popular among cryptocurrency user communities. This can be due to the fact that an ATM represents a familiar element for people, which facilitates the understanding of transactions with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
So far in 2019, the growth of the installation of ATM devices grew around 20%, which, according to CoinATMRadar, reflects a speed of 6.1 units installed per day. Currently Mexico is ranked 26 worldwide, as a number of ATMs installed, above countries such as Singapore and Malta.
