Latin Virtual Store Launched for Payments with Lightning Network
A Latin American initiative that uses the lightning network payment channel network (ln) has recently been launched in Spanish. It is a virtual store that offers goods and services and receives payments only through ln.
The site, identified as clobig stores, aims to bring Latin American users closer to the purchases of digital goods using the payment with satoshis. It was launched by a team based in Colombia, although some of the members are also located in Spain.
Criptonoticias spoke with one of the developers, Javier Vargas, who pointed out that the idea emerged as a natural response to the lack of options to make payments with satoshis in the Spanish-speaking market. A situation that makes the daily use of bitcoin for low value transactions limited.
Given this, the team set a goal to promote the adoption process and massify the use of cryptocurrencies in Latin America, for which it considered that one of the best options was to use lightning network.
Lightning network efficiently and securely solves the impediments to making purchases with satoshis and that is why we wanted to bring users a store with the elements they are used to, including shopping cart, which also allows payments with small amounts of bitcoins through this technology.

Vargas adds that payments on the site are made through a self-developed processor, based on free software and developed by the team. They use the wordpress platform to implement an lnd node (lightning network daemon). This way a plugin is executed that allows to activate the mechanism and process the payments within the site.
The virtual store offers the public a guarded digital wallet that allows to send satoshis, for those users without ln wallet. It works by sending satoshis to a user’s own bitcoin address, from which the amount used for purchases will be discounted.
So far there are few products on sale, mostly the typical items used for bitcoin promotion, such as caps, stickers, t-shirts and coins. They also publish guides and tutorials in Spanish on lightning network, created by the developers, in conjunction with the Spanish-speaking community, according to Vargas. These materials can be rewarded by readers with satoshis.
Interest in Latin America grows by ln
The developer notes that the Hispanic community expresses many desires to learn and relate to ln, “something that has been increasing, and believes that it will continue to grow in the immediate.” He emphasizes that this interest is evidenced in the statistics of localbitcoins, which show Latin America as one of the regions with the highest use of bitcoin, leading Venezuela, Colombia and Brazil.
In this way, the lightning network payment network continues to expand. Worldwide, there are more and more cases of use, in which the network facilitates people from the purchase of food over the Internet, the payment of taxi trips, the publication of videos on social networks and even the feeding of animals, between much others.
Built on bitcoin, ln is a decentralized system for micropayments, of high volume, which allows the processing of these almost instantaneously, from a second layer of payment channels and routing outside the main chain.
