Singapore Airlines Launches its Digital Loyalty Wallet.
KrisFlyer of Singapore Airlines will launch a new digital wallet application based on blockchain technology.
KrisFlyer is the frequent flyer program of Singapore Airlines and is designed to reward everyone who loves to travel. It is expected that a new Krisflyer digital wallet application will use the blockchain technology in the next six months.
SIA will launch the first lifestyle digital wallet application for an airline loyalty program, which uses a private distribution chain owned by SIA that only includes merchants and partners. It will help it unlock the value of KrisFlyer miles to allow daily spending on retail partners.
The application will be introduced to the Singapore market first after a proof-of-concept exercise with KPMG Digital Village and Microsoft.
SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong said the initiative will bring more benefits to members of the KrisFlyer program. It is in line with the digital innovation plan recently introduced by SIA, under which the group aspires to be the leading digital airline in the world.
“This groundbreaking development in which we will be using blockchain technology to ‘digitalise’ KrisFlyer miles is a demonstration of the investment we are making to significantly enhance the digital side of our business for the benefit of our customers,” said Phong.
Singapore Airlines (SIA) is the flag carrier of Singapore. Singapore Airlines was the launch customer of the Airbus A380, the largest passenger plane in the world. It is among the top 15 operators worldwide in terms of passenger and kilometer revenues, and ranks tenth in the world for international passengers transported.
