Building of a “Virtual Galaxy” for Bitcoin Nodes.
It is impressive, how intelligence contained in the human brain advances at leaps and bounds, it is clear that when creativity, innovation, freedom, financial resources, clear policies, join motivation in action, the horizon can begin to be clearly glimpsed: that’s why the Startup A16Z has the possibility of building a “virtual galaxy ” for Bitcoin nodes.
It is said that if Bitcoin could think as a digital property, is something similar to virtual gold, yes it is, the description that will be done, raises the following question, can technology be used to create totally digital landscapes?
Developers are chasing a project called Urbit; they have been trying to answer that question in the last ten years. Attached to that initial concept, developed by a company called Tlon, it has attracted the attention of powerful companies in Silicon Valley as Andreessen Horowitz and co-founder, PayPal, Peter Thiel.
Urbit is a network of PC’s in the cloud, according to their founders aims to create a means through which individuals can run their own servers without having to go through the trouble of running infrastructure of complicated servers. The description of its founders is like a “virtual city”, this project dates back to year 2000, it is Curtis Yarvin’s original idea , this is a programmer who enliven the controversy in previous years, with its “neo-reaccionarists” he made these political writings under the pseudonym of Mencius Mouldbug, there are many criticisms about the project, but it goes ahead.
What does it has to do with Bitcoin and Blockchain?
In the online submitted documentation is clear that: Urbit don’t use a real Blockchain, they do not share kinship through Per-to-Per network. On the other hand, Pauly Galen Wolfe, co founder of Tlon argued that Urbit could become a platform, ideal for the running of Bitcoin nodes and other distributed applications.
According to the words of Wolfe-Pauly, a Coindesk “A blockchain is most useful when nodes are in charge of real users. Coinbase is very good, but it would be great if there was an easy way to execute a full node. Urbit is very suitable to solve that problem”. The project is composed of several parts: a virtual machine, called “Nock”, an operating system, called “Arvo”, a programming language “Hoon” and Peer-to Peer network called “Ames”.
In the project book, Urbit conjures up images of a galaxy, to describe how identities are organized, from a hierarchy. Degradation would be: “Galaxies” to “Stars” to “Kites” Urbit can be described as a virtual universe, from that point it’s explained how identities are generated.
Although the project is still in its firsts stages, according to Wolfe-Pauly, by now is intended as developers or programmers test, if they are interested in using Urbit, it is available as Testnet and can be downloaded from the web. Today Urbit does not share the worldwide distributed nature as Bitcoin, as the project of “Universe” is written, Urbit differs from the model made by Satoshi Nahamoto, regarding bitoin.
For now, Urbit is centralized, because it is in birth, it will be growing, according to Wolfe-Pauly, the ecosystem must grow, the Urbit network structure should be more distributed.
